Media Release - CA/MR 2011/02 - 17th January 2011
The Coal Authority has today (17 January 2011) announced that it will be consulting on a proposed reorganisational structure necessary to lay the foundations for the future of the Authority with a new management structure which also consolidates the effects of the ongoing change activities that have been worked on over the last 12 months.
The results of this reorganisation will see the number of Authority staff reduce by 30 to 133 by the end of March 2012. Staff have been informed that a formal redundancy consultation period has commenced and it is hoped that the necessary reduction in staff will be achieved by means of voluntary redundancy.
The outcome of this reorganisation will ensure that the Authority can continue to deliver best value products and services in a cost efficient manner necessary to meet our statutory duties.

Note for Editors
The Coal Authority is located at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, was established under the Coal Industry Act 1994 and is sponsored by the Department of Energy and Climate Change. We work to protect the public and the environment in coal mining areas and manage the effects of past coal mining by: working to protect old coal mines from affecting people and property, and dealing with any emergencies; helping to clean up water from coal mines; and providing information about coal mining. We also licence companies to mine coal in Britain.
